IRIGA CITY – One of the suspected bank robbers who was killed during a shootout with anti-robbery operatives in Makati City last June 12 was a former bodyguard of a city official here, according to a local police officer who was interviewed by Bicol Mail on condition of anonymity.
He also clarified that three of the slain robbers, allegedly members of the dreaded Antrang-Culangco hold-up gang operating in Metro Manila, were natives of Bato and not Iriga or Baao, all in the province of Camarines Sur, as what had been erroneously reported.
Two of the Bicolano suspects were identified as Luis ‘Awe’ Cervantes and Emmanuel “Tracy” Luares.
Luares was allegedly the same person who was shot and wounded by a fellow bodyguard in July 2006 after a heated argument over jueteng payola.
During that incident, Luares sustained three gunshot wounds in different parts of his body and recuperated after three weeks confinement at Madiatrix hospital here.
The unidentified informant said that despite the proximity of the shooting incident near the police headquarters here, the Iriga police never conducted an investigation of the case.
